Meditation Teachings
Meditation practice has become a staple in today’s modern world. Padmasambhava Meditation Center (PMC) offers beginning meditation instructions every Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. For those who wish to deepen their practice according to the Tibetan tradition, further instructions are available from His Eminence Chhoje Tulku Rinpoche.
Archived copies of Chhoje Rinpoche’s Thursday night “Introduction to Meditation” classes can be freely accessed via PMC YouTube Channel . Thursday night classes will be streamed live when Chhoje Rinpoche is teaching in Denver. Other teachings of Chhoje Rinpoche’s can be purchased through the bookstore.

Transitional Support
Things are constantly in flux. Changing jobs, moving homes, going through a divorce, losing a loved one, working with illness, sudden or chronic, are all significant examples of transition and potent opportunities for healing. Buddhist practice offers tools to cope with loss and grief, and to calm and strengthen the mind during times of turmoil and change.
Preparing for death is, in many ways, the pinnacle of the Buddhist path. Any meditation we do during our lifetime supports us when we face the stages of our death. The devotion and awakened mind we cultivate, the studies in which we engage, the teachings we receive and practice, the rituals in which we participate, the generosity we practice, etc., are not wasted in the training of our minds. Engaging in these meritorious activities before and during the transition helps the mind stay calm and open during what can be a time of great stress and fear.
With this is mind, it is important to put our various affairs in order before the time of death so that we are free from fear and worry about these details and can more easily focus on practice. When we consciously plan in this way, we establish an environment that is peaceful for all concerned. An important part of this is estate planning and the creating of a dharma will.
Consider PMC in Your Legacy and Estate Planning
A great way to establish your legacy, benefit others, and further your dharma practice is to make offerings to dharma centers, which are a nexus of activities dedicated to enlightenment. It is never expected, but if you wish, Padmasambhava Meditation Center would be delighted to accept donations as part of your legacy, estate, and trust planning. You may want to consider naming the organization (or the teacher) in your will or trust, or name PMC as a beneficiary of your IRA, life insurance policy, or 401K.
When offered with pure intention and bodhicitta motivation, the benefits of donating to the three jewels—buddha, dharma, and sangha—are immeasurable. Padmasambhava Meditation Center brings together the three jewels and provides multifaceted opportunities to generate merit. Merit gives rise to energetic strength, and this, rooted in heartfelt devotion, can help us as we navigate the transitional period around death and dying. It can help us to attain a conducive rebirth, where we enjoy the blessings and conditions for dharma practice and realization, for the benefit of all beings.
Chhoje Rinpoche reminds us, “The satisfaction of giving is more than the joy of taking. In terms of happiness, we get more joy by giving than by taking.”
Preparing a Dharma Will
As a supplement to the standard legal documents, you may also want to consider writing a dharma will. This additional document can be included within the standard documentation you will have notarized. In this dharma will, you designate representatives, such dharma friends that you trust, to honor your wishes and help support your dharma practice, before, during, and after your passing.
Trusted dharma friends can help to facilitate and coordinate:
- Peaceful conditions, supportive for your transition;
- Contact with your teacher and the execution of his/her instructions;
- The recitation of phowa prayers (requested from the lamas, and offerings made to them for that purpose) and prayers to be reborn in the pureland;
- The performance of appropriate ceremonies and practices by qualified teachers for the mindstream after it leaves the body such as fish liberation, fire pujas, and Vajrasattva or Chenrezig rituals, like Jowo Thugje;
- That your body and your remains are handled in a careful and timely manner according to the Vajrayana tradition which will help ensure a smooth transition; and
- Emotional support for friends and family.
